Blog post 1: How to make a post!

With the way that the this site is organized, making a post on here may feel confusing at first glance.  But that’s what I am here to help with! Here are the steps to take in order to start making posts!

  1. First off, if not the most important step of them all, sign-up/ login to CUNY Academic Commons website.
  2. Upon completion go and become apart of the course group you are trying to make the post in, this case being “Fall 2018 Art 1010 at Brooklyn College.” This can be found by searching for the “sites” option, clicking on it and searching the class course that you are trying to join as previously stated.
  3. After that on the top left of your screen you should see a toolbar with various options to click on, the one to look for is the button that says “New.”
  4. After pressing new there it should bring you the page showing the template for making a post.
  5. Type in a heading for the post you will be publishing onto the group.
  6. Fill in the body of part of the template with the information that you’re going to talk about in said post.  Don’t forget to utilize the various tools to organize your writing however you see fit, or is required of you.
  7. Select the category, meaning the class course that you will be uploading the post too, check off all boxes necessary.
  8. check for any spelling and grammatical errors and once you are ready to post, put in any pictures and make sure to add in any necessary tags for the post and then hit the blue “publish” button.

Hope this post helped!

My Art Story

When it comes to art, most people think of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and drawings, but art can also consist of music, dance, film, literature, and photography. When we say art, we picture a product developed that appeals to emotions of the artist.

To me, art is a form used to express desire, feelings, and ideas to the viewers. By creating art, we are sharing to the public what we think, the sentiments we carry, our values, but also the experiences that one has faced. Even looking or glancing at art can bounce ideas, but also give a feeling of understanding between the artist and the viewer.

I fit art into my life any chance I can whether it is through listening to music, water-coloring, watching a movie, going to museums or creating a masterpiece of my own. My senior year of high school, I took a ceramics class which had given me a greater love for art and taught me how art comes in many forms. I made a tile, an owl pot, and a few vases. Some of my work are shown below.

In this class, I would like to learn about the historical backgrounds of artists and their paintings and what led them to become the artists they became.

Blog Post 2: My Art Story

Write up your art story: What is art to you? How does it fit in to your life? What do you want to learn about in this class?

When most people think of art, they think of paintings and drawings. Most people consider art to be the creation of an image through the use of physical instruments, such as a paintbrush or a marker.

To me, art is an expression of creativity. To me, art is more than just drawing and painting. It can be photography and even writing. Photography is the art of snapshots and drawing with light. I know this from personal experience, having taken photography courses in Middle School.

Writing novels can also be an art. You have to select the right words to ‘paint an image’ in the readers’ minds. Writing ‘the house is yellow’ is like using a standard yellow paint while saying ‘the house was the color of a ripe sunflower engulfed in sunlight’ is like mixing yellow paint with a touch of orange to make it a more unique color. Art in my life is my creativity. It is the way in which I write a fictional story.

This is why I’d rather learn about artists who push the boundaries of what art actually is than learn about artists like Leonardo da Vinci. I’d be more interested in learning about artists like Willem de Kooning than artists like Vincent Van Gogh. I’d rather learn about flexible artists because my concept of art is flexible too.

Blog Post 2: My Art Story

I understand that art is all around us, from people singing and dancing in the subway to tall buildings and historic monuments and structures all around the city. I believe that anything that makes me feel something as soon as I see it or hear it, most of the time contains artistic background in a way. For most people when they hear art, they will most likely say something similar or the same, that art is emotive.

I have walked around the city, I have take pictures, seen people dancing in times square, heard people singing in the trains and visited museums. But all my life I have been surrounded by people, wherever I go there is people therefore since a very young age I found myself noticing the human body and their facial expressions as something artistic. For example if I see a beautiful woman with an 80’s outfit walking along the city I would like to photograph it because it makes me feel like she is bringing back time. If I see a child crying as its ice cream cone is melting I would also like to photograph it because it would make me feel empathy. If I see a muscular man I also find it artistic because it would portray strength and hard work. However if I see a couple embracing in nature under the moonlight and a million of stars and fire flies light the vast terrains I would most likely photograph it or better yet, even try to draw it (even though I do not know how to draw). I would take such actions because it would make me feel honest love and romance and beauty and serenity and aww and a bunch of feelings. Furthermore I find dance, music, and acting art too.

In class, I look forward to understanding where art comes from and fully comprehend what causes art, and how art has influenced our world today.

Art ?

this is me trying to define art as blunt as possible

Art is a waste of time, but its fun; in the sense that we don’t need to do it but people enjoy way too much of it at a time binge watching too many shows at once

Art is gay …… view Greek and Roman art for a reference, when I say gay its not to stigmatize gay as bad thing it a word I use because it sound right to apply it to how people share art

now is porn considered art? Howd you get here…. wtf
warning
eeehhh … vaguely depended on presentation, films and painting could use sexual themes to boost the narrative

should we study more or perform more art in our life?

Two different types of art; well performed art and relatable art (can also be both) “the long dark blue” by Swain

I  know what good nonsense is
