My Art Story

When art comes to my mind it draws either a blank image or a classical drawing iv’e seen before but never bothered to learn its deeper meaning. Art was never an active or even passive role in my life . It was just a reminder for one of those activities that I just wasent good at for I didn’t see any use of it at the time. It only took one year to completely change my view on art. Just randomly I had a picture in my mind of the most beautiful image I ever thought of. Without thought, I took a pencil and attempted to draw the most ugliest image known to mankind. Constantly over and over I would draw it not out pride or wanted to accomplish something, but to simply draw. I failed miserably of course but I learned a valuable lesson about art and its mysterious ways.

The pencil is a ruthless teacher and you can only learn not by what it says but by what monstrosity it created. It gave me a new perspective in life looking at images and pieces of artwork and working out, how they get from Step one to Step one hundred. Just like anything in life art for example can mean nothing, but one day whether by coincidence or not suddenly it appears as a substance that yearns to be used and expressed. Hopefully in this class ill learn what history was like for people living many decades or even centuries ago and what they depicted in their perceptive lenses. Also this is the first class of art I’ve taken since elementary school, so everyone needs to start somewhere!

Blog 1: How to Post

To be very honest with everyone who is sadly reading this I just learned how to do this in ten minutes out of anger and sheer determination. If you find this to be the most difficult thing to do last minute you may be right… But that’s why I’m here! To make the process as painless as can be.( Or if you just explored endlessly like i did and just randomly found this you can just skip this and do it yourself already.)

Step 1: Try and remember the account you made at the beginning of school that you would easily forget on the website on CUNY Academic Commons.

Step 2: Finally remember your information and type it in successfully to login to your CUNY Academic Commons account.

Step 2.5: (Just found out you need to join a group to do some stuff but no one wants me so its ok i guess ;-;.)

Step 3: Skip Step 2.5 if you are an unlucky boy.

Step 4: Look on the the black bar and try to find the white plus sign and click in the subsection post to begin your post of insanity.

Step 5: Make a funny title or the same title as everyone else in the class if you want… No pressure.

Step 6: Write whatever you want to share publicly into the description like Microsoft. Or instead just do your assigned homework..

Step 7: Now comes the hard part… Look to the black task bar on the left side and look intensively at Dashboard. Once your done being creepy look right of that and click media to add either music or pictures.

Step 8: Once you have put whatever song or picture in this post you have wanted select on the right side whichever category you belong to and create a tag relevant to the post you are publishing.

Step 9: You can finally publish your post and probably go to sleep because you did this last minute…

Blog 2 – My Art Story

As a whole, I believe art is used to define the creative world around us. For something to be considered “art”, it doesn’t have to be in a museum, nor does it have to be a painting. To me, art can be anything from a film, to a photograph, to graffiti on the walls of New York. If people are able to attach meaning and relate to a creative piece, then it is considered art.

Art is a very large portion of my life. I love photography and despite a busy schedule, try to go shooting with my friends at least twice a week. I began my creative journey in 2015, after coming across a photography page on Instagram. I grabbed the camera laying around my house that nobody used, and went to take pictures of trees, bridges, cars, and anything that I saw as creative. As I gained more knowledge and experience with photography, I bought myself an actual DSLR, and began to focus my photography on urban/street photography. This primarily includes streets, subways, buildings, roofs, and anything that pretty much screams “New York” when looked at. I also began to experiment with online software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.

For this class, I want to learn a couple of things. To begin, I want to learn about some of the history of art, especially modern art and their techniques and how they came to be. More importantly however, I want to understand why people deem some things as art, and other things not. I have seen museum exhibitions where there are blank canvasses on the wall, or perhaps have a few lines or splats of paint, and people go crazy over them. On the other hand, I have seen beautiful works of art such as photographs, paintings, or sculptures that people seem to brush past or not appreciate. As I stated, art to me is being able to relate or connect to a piece. I want to understand how people are connecting to lines, as opposed to, in my opinion, more detailed and dedicated works of art.

Art, is all around us. It is a form of a expression in the world around us. Without art, life would be boring (to me atleast). Art is a way people express their emotions, feelings, visualizations, imagination & inner thoughts.  It is a form of creative human expression, we are able to distinguish the moods of an artist through their art weather its happy, sad, or just a fantasized world that they’ve come up with it. Art can also be a form of therapy to many people, like myself. Although I am not a professional artist, I love to draw just to ease my mind, my favorite form of art is actually street art because I love to see how creative and talented a person is using more than just a pen and paper, how they are able to make colors come to life and truly make a picture speak a thousand words. I believe every art piece in the world, from different culturals have a meaning and purpose, and I would like to learn how to truly figure it out especially on historical pieces.

Blog 2: My Art Story

van Gogh, Vincent

When we say the word “art” we are describing any form of human activity ranging from music to sculptures and paintings. Some of the various forms of art are: music, paintings, dance, architecture, drawing, photography and ceramics.  Individuals connect with a piece of art using their thoughts, emotions, beliefs and ideas. For most people art is a safe haven in which they allow their thoughts to run wild.

To me, art is used to be myself.  In my life I’ve dealt with different forms of art. I was a member of my school chorus starting in 4th grade of elementary school to the end of my sophomore year of high school. Art allows me to creatively express my inner thoughts. When I’m feeling a certain way whether I am happy or sad I like to listen to different music and just drift away. Different music allows me to relax and reflect on life.

Through this class I want to learn more about the meaning behind famous pieces of art. I would like to know what the meaning behind the Mona Lisa is, other than whats being shown. I would like to also learn about the derivation of the different forms of music. Over the years hip-hop or rnb music has become famous but when did this start?

Blog Post #2: My Art Story

What is art? When people hear the word “Art” they immediately think about paintings, drawings and sometimes even sculptures. Although this is true, those things are just a very little percentage of what art truly is. In reality there is more to art then just paintings and drawings. Photography, Dance, and Writing are also different forms of art. My personal favorite type of art is Music.

Music is the art of using sounds, created vocally or instrumentally, to express emotion. Music is my favorite type of art. My love towards music began back in elementary school, Cesar Rodney, while in music class. At the time I was in second grade and the class was just beginning to learn how to play the recorder; although most of the kids in the class hated and found it annoying I was one of the few who thought it was fun and entertaining. The following school year I decided to join the school band and learned how to play the clarinet. Although learning the clarinet was a lot more difficult than learning how to play the recorder I didn’t quit. A few months later I performed at my first concert and it was then that I realized I loved it and continued my journey as an instrumentalist. Years later I used what I learned and auditioned to the arts program at my middle school, The SEEALL Academy, and years after that also used my skills as a clarinetist and auditioned for my high school, Fort Hamilton High School, in which I was apart of both the Concert and Marching Bands.

Although I may have made it seem that music is what art truly is about it isn’t.  Art, to me, is defined by creativity. Painting, Drawing, Sculpting, Photography, Dancing, Writing and Music are all just some of the many different forms of Art. The truth is that the anything and everything that has even the slightest bit of creativity can be considered art. In the end there is no definite meaning as to what Art is since the idea of something being “creative” varies from person to person.
