Blog Post 2: My Art Story

Art, to me, is anything that can illicit an emotional reaction. It can be in the traditional sense such as visual art or in literature, or  film, or music etc. However I think art can be found anywhere and made by anyone. To try and define art restricts it by nature. Art is arguably the most subjective field, leaving everyone with their own definition or what they consider to be art.

Art is everywhere in my life, you can find it anywhere under the right lens and certain level of appreciation for the ordinary. I find personally that music and poetry, those two specific kinds of art, move me the most. A few of my favorite artists are Jean-Michel Basquait, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, and Ron Padgett. Though art can also be walking into a subway station at the perfect time right as when the train is pulling into the station. The beauty of art is how it can show itself at the most unsuspecting times and comes in so many forms.

In this class I’m not looking to learn about any specific field or discipline. I would just like to have a deeper appreciation for art which, of course, comes with a greater knowledge of the subject.

This painting is titled: Broadway Boogie Woogie. It was painted by Piet Mondrian in 1943. It is my favorite painting and can be found at MoMA

How To Formulate An Exemplary Post For Your Art Class

Posting a blog post can be a very daunting task at first, but if you follow my steps, you will be set.

The first step is to log into your CUNY Commons academic site. Or, you may click on this link to direct you straight to the art class: https://art1010shawfall18.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

When you register for an account, make sure to click the link above and it will redirect you to Professor Shaw’s Art 1010 Website. Once there, pick the time slot that applies to you (there’s only two available). If you are in the 9:30 PM class, pick that class.

If you are logged in, there is a menu bar on the top of the website. There you will find a “+ New” icon. Click that menu option to begin writing your post.

Once you click the “+ New” icon, you will be directed to a streamlined user interface that allows you to write whatever you want. Make sure to add a title/header and a picture that goes along with your post. Also, make sure to add a tag to further specify the type of post. You can add tags on the right menu bar; just scroll down until you find it.

Before you post, make sure your post doesn’t have any grammatical errors that may cause confusion. It’s always a good habit to check over your work for such mistakes!

Life Is A Work Of Art

Art is all around us. Whether it’s in newspapers, magazines, books, music, buildings; art is essential in the society we live in. Art is something I’m passionate about. Living in New York, I grew up surrounded by art and I’ve come to love and appreciate all different types of it. I started drawing at a young age, I’ve since then realized how powerful a weapon creativity can be. I believe everyone has the right to express themselves the way they feel like. When I draw I know there is no limit on how I want to express myself. Drawing is my way of showing the world who I am and what I’m capable of. I’ve always asked myself the question: who am I as an artist and is there anything about me that makes me different. The answer is yes. I see things in a unique perspective and it influences my inspiration for my artwork. I continue to work until my muse has used up every last bit of creative energy in my body. My drawings interpret my perspective and shed light on other different viewpoints. As a thriving artist, I want to continue to learn and be exposed to new forms of art. I hope to one-day change society’s’ mindset of how art is perceived and influenced.
