My Art Story

When I hear the word art I instantly think of museums. I don’t go often but when I do what I love about going is hearing other people’s perspectives on an art piece. It’s crazy sometimes what people can catch. Every art piece has some kind of meaning whether it’s obvious or not at first glance. Art is a form of expressing your thoughts and imagination in a visual image. The only personal art of mine is my doodling in class on the margins of my paper.

I don’t think a skill is needed when it comes to art. Whether you perceive it as an “ugly” drawing, it is still art and it still will have meaning of some sort. The reason for this is because art is used to express yourself and bring out your creative imagination. In my previous Psychology classes, it was always brought up how drawing can be used as a way for therapy. This is true based on my experience because when I doodle in class, it calms me down.

My favorite type of art is graffiti. I love walking around streets of New York and observe the colors and art behind graffiti. My favorite area in New York that has graffiti is Williamsburg. The graffiti there is remarkable because of all the effort and detail put into it and the meaning behind them.

I took these images below the last time I was in Williamsburg and I was astonished by the detailing:

Blog 2: My Art Story

When someone says art in casual conversations 9 out of 10 time they refer to paintings that hang in louvre or the Met or in any other art gallery, but when I hear of Art I think of a variety of things. Art to me is film, sculptures, photography, music, dance, fashion, and culture and because of this Art plays an essential role in our lives whether we like it or not.

My appreciate for art started over my love of history when I was first introduced to The Renaissance and all of its glorious artist. As I studied more about art history I came across Frida Kahlo someone who till this day is some one I admire no just for her paintings but her resilience and her being able to just be her. Frida Kahlo so important to me that I believe she has shaped me and my mentality about how I view others and how I view myself.

For the upcoming class I would like to learn about Paintings by artist that are often ignored or also by artist that during their time were not welcomed.

Post 2: My Art Story

Some people believe art is just a painting or a drawing, others believe it’s music and the way music influences you and some people believe art is just subjective to what someone might find beautiful and that’s subjective in it’s own way too.

Art to me is how I define beauty. This means I find anime, music, paintings, nature and creative works to be a piece of art. Anime can be art if the writers and anime collaborate to mix the music and setting perfectly, music can be art with the way it influences my emotion, paintings are art to me when they have bright colors or have some hidden meaning behind and image, nature to me is the most beautiful art because it can’t be replicated and is the exact standard of what man first called beauty.

In this class I would like to focus on different forms of art than the ones listed. I want to know the history of Art and why certain artists chose their respective art forms.

This is my favorite piece of art, This was from the show Naruto Shippuden. People might not find this to be art, however I do. The way the animator draws the 2 opposing characters as they witnessed tragedy to become the same but separated. The eye change shows the severity of the emotional pain, that’s why it’s my favorite piece of art.

My Art Story

Art is primarily subjective to each individual. Essentially, it can consist of pretty much anything and everything you want. A piece of paper, a still moment, sounds, intangible experiences and feelings can all be considered art, if you truly wanted it to be.

Personally, art to me can be all of the things I have just listed. Anything that is beautiful to me, stands out and leaves me wanting a little bit more. Words that are curated in ways you couldn’t typically think of, places you’ve been that you just can’t get out of your head, sounds and pictures and everything else. Art is all around me, every single day. Art can architecturally stand out to me in the bed that I wake up in every morning. The interior design of the house I walk around in, the art of getting ready, putting on make-up and leaving the house. Stepping out into another start of the day, hearing the car horns of angry drivers, that is the art of New York City. It is from the minute I wake up to the minute I sleep – it is ultimately endless.

In this class, I want to be able to discover more forms of art that I haven’t already experienced. The history of art can help me dig a little bit deeper and find significance in every day life. I want to be able to appreciate the little details we might miss throughout what we believe to be our most ordinary times. It is beautiful everywhere I go and sometimes I may forget to take it all in.

Blog Post 2: My Art Story

Art, to me, is anything that can illicit an emotional reaction. It can be in the traditional sense such as visual art or in literature, or  film, or music etc. However I think art can be found anywhere and made by anyone. To try and define art restricts it by nature. Art is arguably the most subjective field, leaving everyone with their own definition or what they consider to be art.

Art is everywhere in my life, you can find it anywhere under the right lens and certain level of appreciation for the ordinary. I find personally that music and poetry, those two specific kinds of art, move me the most. A few of my favorite artists are Jean-Michel Basquait, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, and Ron Padgett. Though art can also be walking into a subway station at the perfect time right as when the train is pulling into the station. The beauty of art is how it can show itself at the most unsuspecting times and comes in so many forms.

In this class I’m not looking to learn about any specific field or discipline. I would just like to have a deeper appreciation for art which, of course, comes with a greater knowledge of the subject.

This painting is titled: Broadway Boogie Woogie. It was painted by Piet Mondrian in 1943. It is my favorite painting and can be found at MoMA
